BROQUET USER SURVEY

Introduction.

  1. In October 1994, Motoring & Leisure, the journal of the Civil Service Motoring Association, the UK's largest private motoring club with over 300,000 members asked readers with experience of the Broquet Fuel Catalyst to write in with their comments. Had the product been worthwhile and what, if any, differences had it made?

  2. In just a few weeks more than 100 letters were received (as of 7/12/94) saying how well the product had performed. The vast majority of letters were from motorists who had used Broquet to change to ordinary grade unleaded petrol in engines designed for leaded 4-Star petrol. These letters are summarised on this sheet. It should be noted that changing (without engine adjustment) to this grade of unleaded from leaded petrol would, without Broquet, be expected to result in a very poorly running engine which pinked excessively and with fuel economy worsened by 3 - 4% quite apart from likely damage caused by valve seat recession in many older engines running without the protection of tetraethyl lead in leaded petrol.

  3. The overwhelming conclusion is that Broquet provides considerable benefits for the motorist. The product allows the safe use of premium unleaded petrol in older "leaded-only" engines and engine performance is improved. Emissions are greatly reduced and fuel savings can amount to several hundreds of pounds.

  4. The following provides a summary of the reader response. All these letters were received between October and early December 1994. They are in addition to the many testimonials we have received over the last several years from individual motorists and fleet users.

Astra 1.3 1983 Humphreys JT I believe the device is a safe means of using unleaded in engines not designed for it.
Astra 1.3 1982 Trevitt R 70,000 miles with Broquet. Emissions certainly improved.
Audi Avant 1989 Driver J 24,000 miles with Broquet. Better low end running.
Audi 90 1983 Driver J 40,000 miles with Broquet. Ran more sweetly at low revs.
Austin Healey Sprite Bradford M Plugs - best colour I have seen. Also uses in Fiat Tipo.
Bedford CF 1982 Wilson DA Emissions dramatically improved. Engine quieter, smoother.
BMW Bike R80/7 Randell-Smith N It has done just what I wanted (switch to unleaded).
BMW 323i Peter K Purchased to use unleaded continuously.
BMW 316i Garvey L Never ran well on unleaded until Broquet fitted. Mpg improved. It works for me.
Carlton 1984 Bax DC Improved immediately. Used to do 108 mph now does 116 mph, a joy to drive. Mpg up from 27 - 30.5 (12.96%).
Cavalier "D" Reg Fordham J Mpg side not important, sweetness of the engine is. Amazing results.
Cavalier 1.8 1983 Summer M 70,000 miles with Broquet using unleaded on "leaded" timing setting.
Cavalier Mk 2 1988 Hawkes R 40,000 miles with Broquet. Timing could be advanced.
Cavalier 1.6L 1983 Munson AF I still find it hard to believe that I can use unleaded with improved performance.
Citroen BX DTR MacNaughton MRK The first thing noticed was a reduction in smoke on start up. Mpg increase up to 20%. Does the catalyst work - obviously.
Citroen ZX Diesel King PGD Mpg up from 38.4 - 41.9 (9.1%).
Citroen ZX Diesel Newson JW Mpg up from 50.4 - 54.9 (8.9%). I am well satisfied.
Cortina Mk IV Wheatley W Mpg up from 33 - 37 (12.1%). Performance more livelier and I have more than recovered the cost.
Escort "C" Reg Blud FV Had in tank for two years and it has more than paid for itself. Runs like a bird.
Escort 1974 Dr Peers 65,000 miles with Broquet. Runs as well as ever.
Escort Garrett K 3 - 4 mpg improvement. My experience has been almost unbelievable.. looking for another gear.
Fiat X1/9 Holden JF 6,000 miles of less expensive and trouble free motoring.
Fiat Ducato Sharp TH 5 mpg improvement. Starts easier and runs smoother. I fully recommend them.
Fiat Uno 1991 Kerr A More economical. Cured pinking problem that garage couldn't resolve.
Fiat 126 1985 Fox M 43,000 miles with Broquet. 52 mpg on unleaded. No sign of valve recession whatsoever.
Fiat 124 1974 Anderson N Garage amazed at emission readings, better than a modern car.
Fiat Croma Arblaster M Mpg up almost 10%. Emissions improved at MOT. For me it has and is doing what it said it would.
Fiesta Letter 14/10/94 53,000 miles with Broquet. Definitely ran better in all conditions.
Fiesta 1.1 1983 Smith AM Bought to use unleaded. No changes to engine required and performance perfect.
Ford Transit Hayles Travel Mpg up from 18.73 - 22.41 (19.6%). Engine oil cleaner. Wonderful.
Freight Rover '85 Anderson E Performance has definitely improved. Purchased to run lead free.
Granada 1988 Seymour FD (?) 35,000 miles with Broquet and mpg up. Also has in Escort. Saved a very significant sum in petrol costs.
Granada 2.8 1984 Larden FJ (?) I'm extremely pleased with its performance all round, you can't go wrong with it. Excellent product.
Granada "D" Reg Leonard JW Cleaned up sooty exhaust. Friend has Broquet in Bluebird - delighted.
Granada 2.8 1982 Stacey JW Caravan use. I am more than satisfied.
Granada 2.8 1983 Robertson J Mpg up 2. Caravan work. No hesitation in recommending Broquet.
Hillman Hunter Haynes P Mpg much improved. Delighted with product.
Hillman Hunter Myall B Mpg up about 10%. This is the CSMA test car (May 1992). Still running sweetly on unleaded with 180,000 miles on clock.
Hillman Hunter '67 Cook PG Mpg up from 27 - 29 (7.4%). I have saved £110.
Honda Accord 1.6 Paine AE Mpg up 4.8%. Purchased to run on unleaded.
Honda Quintet 1982 Tanner RWC The device works, you have converted to lead-free...what more do you want.
Honda Accord 1971 Venning J Running more smoothly. CO emission down from .08% to .03%, HC down from 79ppm to 7ppm.
Jensen CV8 1966 Timpson CA Runs on unleaded as happily as it did on 4-Star with no timing change.
Lada Riva 1990 Letter 21/10/94 Exhaust emissions very low. It's certainly doing the job.
Lancia Delta 1983 Butt RA Mpg up at least 10%. 37,000 miles with Broquet. I am convinced of the benefits.
Land Rover 1967 Ferguson R Used for two to three years on unleaded.
Maestro 1.3 1985 Parkin E 19,000 miles without any problems. No pinking. Impressed.
Maestro 1988 Tilson FS Mpg up 10%. Runs smoothly, no pinking. Very satisfied with the car's performance.
Maestro Foster LJ Improved exhaust emissions. Outlay well worth while.
Maestro 1.6 1985 Everington I consider that it has paid for itself already.
Maestro 1.3 "A" Belderson Mpg up from 32 - 38 (18.75%). 40,000 miles with Broquet over 3 years. No problem with MOT emission tests.
Maestro 1984 Bregenzer H Mpg up from 31.5 - 35 (11.1%). Uses to run-on badly, now stopped. Already more than paid for itself.
Maestro Mayfair '88 Read RA Reduced exhaust gas smell in garage. Increased engine liveliness.
Maestro 1986 Forrester RA 30,000 miles with Broquet. Very low emissions. Does what is claimed of it.
Maestro 1.6 Auto Brooks JS Mpg up 6.5%. Performance better since conversion.
Merc 200T "A" Coggle N It works.
Metro Ellinor K Running perfectly, had Broquet for two years. Mpg improved.
Metro GT Beale AE Used Broquet to resolve emission problem at MOT. Doing exactly what is claimed.
Metro City Tommy L (?) Performance slightly improved. Failed MOT on emissions before Broquet, passed this year. Excellent investment.
Metro BL 1987 Adams J Put unleaded in by accident (before Broquet); ran terribly and had to syphon out.
Metro GTa 1990 Ferguson R Mpg up from 33 - 38 (15.2%). Also has in Land Rover.
Metro 1.0 HLE '81 Dennis RS Broquet stopped pinking problem after 60 miles. Very low emissions.
Metro 1.3 HLE '83 Meur ME Mpg improved. No hesitation in recommending use of this catalyst. Also uses in Metro City and Rover 216 EFi.
Metro Mayfair Letter Distinct improvement in performance. Exhaust emission improved.
Metro Mayfair Robinson DM Runs better than it did on 4-Star. Acceleration better. I am very happy with the results.
Montego 1988 Preece D Improvement in compression and exhaust emissions. Happy with performance.
Montego 2.0i 1987 Craven PV Runs perfectly on non-leaded justifying the outlay.
Montego 1.3 1986 King J H Mpg up about 5%.
Morris 1300 1968 Gaffney I I consider to be very worthwhile and am entirely satisfied.
Morris Traveller Turnbull DR Engine is sweeter and more powerful.
Norton 750 1972 Parkin E Runs on unleaded without complaint. Engine flexibility enhanced.
Opel Manta Williamson R Mpg up 7%. Previously ran dismally on unleaded. The claims for Broquet were substantiated totally and absolutely.
Orion Ghia 1984 Hinds JS Acceleration better than when new. Mpg improved. Broquet is a winner.
Peug 205GL "A" Self K Mpg up from 39.1 - 46.1 (17.9%). Runs perfectly on unleaded. Mpg increase an added bonus.
Peugeot 205 1986 Letter 11/10/94 Mpg up from 44.8 - 47.0 (4.9%). 35,000 miles with Broquet. More lively manner. Chalk up one satisfied customer.
Peugeot 205 GR '85 Attfield PA Mpg improved. More than paid for itself. Runs quieter and sweeter than ever before.
Peugeot 405 GL Kemp DG Mpg up 7%. Oil cleaner, runs better.
Peugeot 305 1985 Barnard DC Pinking stopped - proof to me that something is happening.
Peugeot 405 1988 Kerr A Ran more smoothly, transferred Broquet to another vehicle.
Reliant Scimitar Sutcliffe E 20,000 miles with Broquet. Normal build up of carbon etc was missing from exhaust valves.
Rover 2600S 1981 Baker B Starts better, runs cleaner and seems to pull better. I'd recommend it to anyone - and I do!
Rover 1.3 Mayfair Jackson RC I have no complaints. 21 months of trouble free motoring on cheaper unleaded.
Rover 200 "E" Reg Bowles E No problems.
Rover 1300 Fullman DAJ Mpg up from 32 - 36 (12.5%). 47,000 miles with Broquet. Saved £700. Sailed through its MOT.
Saab 99 1976 Harcourt-Brown D Mpg up 7%. The performance just got better, it ran smoother, starting improved. All on lead free petrol.
Saab Turbo 1982 Law A Every 100 miles I cover I am 80p better off.
Saab 99L 1985cc Summers H (C.Eng) Mpg improved and 10% more power. My definite impression is that the engine runs more smoothly.
Scirocco Damant G I am completely satisfied and recommend Broquet as a genuine product matching its claims.
Sierra Ghia MacRae J Mpg up from 21.5 - 29.5 (37.2%). 35,000 miles with Broquet. Running much more smoothly.
Skoda 130 SL Kelly MA Mpg up from 25 - 30 (20%). Combustion chamber clean as new. Best discovery this century in the motoring world.
Skoda Estelle 120L Lincoln AR 40,000 miles with Broquet. Gets 50 mpg at 50 mph.
Talbot Horizon 1984 Bishop S Mrs 60,000 miles with Broquet since 1989. No problems whatsoever.
Toyota Celica 1979 Letter 20/10/94 Mpg up from 18 - 19.5 (8.3%). Noticeably smoother and quieter. I am convinced that the catalyst works.
Toyota Carina "G" England JA Mechanic could not believe low emission levels.
Toyota Carina 1991 Driver J Mpg up from 38.6 - 43.5 (12.7%). In four vehicles. No disadvantage and have always benefitted from better running.
Various Garner DA 65,000 miles in 3 vehicles (Audi, Visa, VW Golf). Saved around £360.
Vauxhall Chev '79 O'Connor AJO Mpg up from 30 - 34 (13.3%). As smooth as the proverbial sewing machine.
Vauxhall Beale AE No adjustments needed. No cause for complaint.
Volvo 240 1987 Driver J Mechanic never seen such low exhaust emissions. Smoother running and better torque at low revs.
Volvo 240 GL 1986 Letter 22/11/94 Astonishingly the car began to run more smoothly.
Volvo 740 Turbo Nicol JD Mpg up from 22 - 25 (13.6%). Completely solved pinking problem. Saves the cost of road fund licence every year.
Volvo 360 1985 Benson DN 73,000 miles with Broquet. Saved over £500.
Volvo 740 Turbo Lewis S Mrs Mpg up from 18 - 23 (27.7%). Runs very well now on unleaded with no adverse effects.
Volvo 240 1990 Coe SW I am happy in all respects with the performance of the car both in the UK and on the Continent.
XR2 Summer M Successful results.
XR3i Chidgey P Noticeable improvement in mpg. The results were amazing. Noticeable performance increase.
